Today is Knuckles 8 month birthday. Happy birthday to my wild man!
I don’t know his weight but there is a new rescue GSD in the neighborhood who is 3 years old and Knuckles is much larger and still growing. The vet said to wait until after 8 months to get Knuckles snipped which means the Big Day is just around the corner. I hear that it calms down male dogs but I don’t remember that working for Beef or Max so I’m not counting on it. It will give me one night home alone while he stays overnight at the vets. I joke that it will be party time, but I really rely on him to feel safe and sleep well.
You can see that I have given up on the ear splints. K, my colorist for about 15 years, also has a GSD with floppy ears. They too went through the curlers, taping, etc to no avail. I’m just going to love him "as is", although I am still very disappointed.
Neither dog is continuing at any Doggy Day Care for the moment. The last place was on the opposite end of the spectrum with no rules and therefore, no behavior correction. The dogs would go to the bathroom on the floor and the staff would just silently wipe it up (without gloves – eek!). I made the decision to stop because Knuckles started the same behavior at home after he’s been house trained. Youngest made the decision not to attend when Silly was shaved there (at her request - they are groomers) and she came home with a sliced pad. The great daycare businesses are in Mayberry, more costly, have an interview process and require neutering. I really need time to write for work without Knuckles underfoot so we’ll figure something out.
